Alex Smith

Alex Smith
Law Clerk
Alex brings a rare combination of engineering expertise and legal training to complex civil litigation. His practice is informed by more than a decade of experience as a process controls and systems engineer in the petrochemical and industrial sectors, where he worked directly with safety-critical systems, industrial operations, and regulatory compliance. That background allows Alex to approach legal problems with a technical, systems-based mindset, particularly in matters involving complex evidence, industrial accidents, and disputed causation.
Before entering the legal profession, Alex earned degrees in electrical engineering and chemical engineering and
became licensed as a Professional Engineer in Louisiana in both Control Systems Engineering and Chemical Engineering. He is currently pursuing his Juris Doctor at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, where his trial advocacy team won a national championship in the Syracuse Deposition Competition.
At Smith Trial & Appellate Lawyers, Alex supports trial teams and appellate strategy by bridging the gap between technical facts and persuasive legal argument. He assists with case investigation, expert coordination, technical discovery, and legal analysis, helping ensure that complex cases are built on a sound factual and evidentiary foundation. His role is focused on strengthening cases from the earliest stages, with an eye toward clarity, credibility, and success at trial and on review.
